The Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum Sixth Annual Meeting,

Realizing that corruption has become a widespread phenomenon in international business transactions including trade and investment, raising serious moral and political concerns and distorting international competitive conditions;

Concerned with the rampant corruption in some Asian countries which if not sooner prevented will erode the economic fabric of society;

Aware that various means of attacking corruption tried in some countries fell short in its aim;

Noting the negative bureaucratic behavior, especially corruption of the individualized kind, thrive because they are easy to do and can be done when pressures for performance are very strong and that this could be curtailed if not totally eradicated if opportunities to commit such act would be made more difficult;

Emphasizing the need to pool resources to combat this economic evil in society and restore ethics and integrity in business transactions both domestically and internationally;
